Today, vehicle emissions released into the atmosphere remain a major concern globally. Therefore, a series of emission standards have been introduced: Euro 1 (1993), Euro 2, 3, 4, 5, and currently Euro 6, which imposes even stricter limits on pollutants emitted by vehicles.

In Vietnam, from January 1, 2018, the emission standard was raised to Euro 4 for vehicles put into use after this date. More recently, from December 31, 2021, all newly manufactured or assembled vehicles must meet Euro 5 standards.

What is AdBlue? Composition and Operating Mechanism

The main components of AdBlue are urea (about 32.5%) and deionized water (67.5%). This solution plays an important role in reducing air pollution caused by harmful exhaust gases from diesel engines, especially nitrogen oxides (NOx). AdBlue is not a fuel but an additive that is injected into the engine’s exhaust system through a separate injection mechanism.

When AdBlue is sprayed into the exhaust pipe, it reacts with NOx in the exhaust gases inside a device called a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst. The chemical reaction inside the SCR converts NOx into nitrogen (N₂) and water vapor (H₂O), both harmless to the environment.

Using AdBlue is very simple: the user only needs to fill it into its separate tank, usually located next to the fuel filler. There is no need for complicated calculations—just fill the AdBlue tank when needed.
