BASF Launches Low-Electrical-Conductivity Coolant — A New Bright Spot for Electric Vehicles

02/10/2025
561

On September 10, 2025, BASF announced the launch of a new coolant line called GLYSANTIN® ELECTRIFIED®, featuring low electrical conductivity (LECC)

Highlights

  • This product complies with China’s new standard GB 29743.2-2025, effective from October 1, 2025

  • GLYSANTIN® ELECTRIFIED® is engineered to reduce coolant decomposition and suppress hydrogen generation when in contact with high-voltage components in battery systems. This helps reduce fire and explosion risks and enhances battery safety.

  • The production facility is located in Pudong, Shanghai, China

  • According to Matthias Lang, Vice President in charge of Fuel & Lubricant Solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, the launch reflects collaboration between governments, research institutes, and automakers to elevate safety standards for electric vehicles.

Since its introduction in 1929, the GLYSANTIN® brand has been a pioneer in engine cooling solutions, always aligned with commitments to safety, performance, and durability across various propulsion technologies. Its product portfolio now includes advanced cooling solutions for batteries and fuel cells, with a focus on low-carbon emissions and circular economy principles.

The new GLYSANTIN® ELECTRIFIED® line offers high-quality coolant solutions suitable for both present and future drivetrain systems, providing comprehensive protection.

About GLYSANTIN® ELECTRIFIED® Products

  • GLYSANTIN® FC G20® ELECTRIFIED® is developed specifically for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). With extremely low electrical conductivity, it maintains stability to protect systems from corrosion and ensure electrical safety during operation.

  • GLYSANTIN® G22® ELECTRIFIED® is BASF’s first premium coolant designed specifically for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) using an indirect cooling system. This ready-to-use product has low electrical conductivity and maintains low, stable currents when exposed to voltage sources. This minimizes coolant decomposition and hydrogen generation, improving system safety while ensuring optimal corrosion protection.

  • Some variants in this lineup may be developed under the ECO ELECTRIFIED® standard, featuring low carbon footprints through biomass balancing or circular economy solutions, offering superior sustainability in production.

EV Market Trends & Forecasts in Vietnam

Here’s a summary of data, trends, and outlooks for the electric vehicle (automobile and motorbike) market in Vietnam, based on domestic and international reports

Market Size & Growth

  • According to IMARC Group, Vietnam’s electric car market was valued at approximately USD 3.02 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach USD 12.23 billion by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 16.81% during 2025–2033.

  • A 2025 article by VnExpress cites HSBC forecasts that EV sales (including motorbikes and cars) in Vietnam will rise from under 1 million units in 2024 to over 2.5 million units by 2036.

  • The KPMG / Chợ Tốt Xe 2024 EV Report notes that nearly 70% of Vietnamese consumers express interest in purchasing electric or hybrid vehicles.

Policy & Infrastructure

  • The government is pushing toward net-zero goals, but challenges remain in scaling up charging infrastructure and creating investment returns for station operators. Upgrading the grid and developing fast-charging stations are urgent needs.

Supply Chain

  • Vietnam is gradually becoming part of the global battery supply chain (with players like CATL, LG, Samsung, Gotion). Ancillary industries (coolants, insulating materials) will grow in importance.

Automakers

  • VinFast leads domestically, focusing on smaller and taxi EV models.

  • BYD is expanding in the mass market and increasing dealership footprint, with plans to produce locally in Vietnam.

  • Foreign automakers like Hyundai, Toyota, and Kia are entering the market, raising competition and driving higher standards.

Notable Trends

  • Growth in small / affordable EVs, integration with smart grids & fast charging, and a push for commercial electric vehicles (vans, delivery fleets).

Conclusion

BASF’s announcement of GLYSANTIN® ELECTRIFIED® emphasizes that in the trend of automotive electrification, not only batteries but also supporting components — such as low-conductivity coolants — play a critical role in ensuring the safety and durability of electric vehicle systems.
