Chevron Capella® WF Refrigeration Oil
Product Overview

- Capella® WF is a high-quality, virtually wax-free refrigeration oil specifically developed to lubricate compressors in refrigeration and air conditioning systems that do not use HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) refrigerants. The product is formulated from specially selected naphthenic base oils derived from a narrow distillation cut, achieving extremely low pour points and Freon floc points. This is particularly critical in refrigeration systems, where the oil must maintain good fluidity even at very low temperatures while avoiding wax crystallization that could block pipelines or impair heat transfer efficiency.
- Its virtually wax-free characteristics prevent wax crystallization in evaporators and refrigerant flow control components, ensuring stable and efficient system operation while minimizing the risk of line blockage or reduced refrigerant flow.
Technical Features and Benefits
One of the most notable advantages of Capella WF is its ability to minimize system downtime. Thanks to its extremely low Freon floc point and pour point, the oil maintains good fluidity throughout operation — even when the system works at deep sub-zero temperatures. This significantly reduces wax deposit formation in evaporators, refrigerant lines, and expansion valves, ensuring a stable and uninterrupted refrigeration cycle. Its superior lubrication performance also reduces wear on moving components within the compressor, contributing to smoother and more durable system operation.

- In addition, Capella WF exhibits excellent thermal stability, limiting the formation of sludge, gum, and varnish deposits during prolonged operation under high temperature and pressure conditions. This extends the service life of the compressor and sealing components such as gaskets and shaft seals, while maintaining internal system cleanliness.
- Outstanding oxidation resistance is another key attribute of Capella WF. The oil resists thickening and deposit formation during service, extending oil drain intervals, reducing maintenance frequency, and contributing to optimized operating and maintenance costs.
Applications
- Capella WF is suitable for use in compressors of refrigeration and air conditioning systems operating with refrigerants including CFCs, HCFCs, ammonia, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and ethylene chloride. The product is compatible with a range of compressor types, including rotary and reciprocating piston compressors in both industrial and commercial refrigeration systems.
- For systems using HFC refrigerants — such as HFC 134a — Capella WF is not recommended. Dedicated lubricants such as Texaco's Capella® HFC series should be used instead to ensure chemical compatibility and lubrication effectiveness. For large industrial refrigeration systems operating with ammonia, products such as Ammonia Refrigeration Oil or Capella® A may deliver superior performance under certain specific operating conditions.
- Capella WF must not be used in compressors supplying breathing air for medical gas systems or any application involving respiratory air requirements.
